L.C.D Project – May 2009 to Aug 2010

The Low Carbon diet was a Queensland Government initiative to lower household carbon footprints and reduce the impact of climate change on our planet. NWAICA was given a Government Grant to help introduce the Low Carbon Diet to the Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and other culturally diverse groups.

NWAICA believed that, as the custodians of this land, who have kept this country healthy for thousands of years, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will be the leaders in making the difference that our earth needs.

We worked for about 3months to develop an information DVD made up of a series of short films so that the message is clear. Thank you to all of the people who gave up their time to act in our community resource DVD. The DVDs were given to the people in our community.

The NWAICA LCD project also recruited a total of 305 individuals from local homes, community and groups. We ran some workshops at local schools, educating kids on the environment, caring for country and understanding the need to reduce our carbon footprint.
